Andrew Preston
Head Coach, Pleasant Hill Aquatics

We are so happy to have Andrew with us! He is a great addition, as our swim philosophies are very close and he's got a wealth of experience in rec, USS and high school coaching/teaching - twenty plus years (recreation 20 yrs., USS Terrapins two full years + 12 years of fall clinic and two years coaching Collge Park High School).

As a premier swimmer, Andrew spent eight years with the Walnut Creek Aquabears where he was a Junior National qualifier and made high school NCS finals 3 years. From there, he swam for DVC two years where he was a state finalist, then onto Chico State as a Division 2 qualifier.

As head coach of the renowned Pleasant Hill Aquatic Swim Team (PHAST) for the past 10 years, Andrew is coveted and loved by the many team families and swimmers. He has enjoyed great success in their league, as well. And, it's not about winning to Andrew, but about "team." He makes sure his swimmers have the chance to swim on a good relay even if they are not the fastest.

Andrew has also worked with children and young adults as a basketball coach & camp counselor at St. Stephens Parish in Walnut Creek, was a substitute general education teacher for Mt. Diablo School District for grades K-5, has worked as a special education teacher for mild-to-moderate learning disabled children grades K-5, as well as severely-to-emotionally disturbed grades, was a Mt. Diablo adult education teacher two years for those studying for their GED and High School Diploma and also teaching adults in the fields of Conversational English and Algebra, spent eight years in the Republic of Yemen as an English as a Second Language instructor, and taught CPR and First Aid for the Concord Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Andrew is currently employed with Springstone School in Lafayette - a non-public school for middle school students who have executive function disorders that affect their ability to organize and prioritize information, and to make meaningful social connections.

Andrew was born in England, but came to the U.S. in second grade (Washington state) and moved to this area when he was in fifth grade. He is well-traveled, too - thirty countries! Andrew's hobbies include collecting stamps and short stories (flash und 1500 words). He lives with his wife Tiffany, two daughters, Annie and Samantha, and stepson Sterling.

Welcome to ATSA Andrew!
